France Supply Chain by Aslog awards two prizes for the Best Article in Sustainable Supply Chain in recognition of work on the digital twins of smart cities and the positive impact of industry 4.0 technologies in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Since 2022, France Supply Chain has been collaborating with the International Association for Research in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (AIRL-SCM) to reward a scientific publication making a significant contribution to the field of sustainable Supply Chain. This year, the jury could not decide between the last 2 papers in the running, as they both deserved the award, on very distinct but fundamental themes.

A demonstration of the impact of Industry 4.0 technologies on each of the processes in the SCOR model for building supply chain 4.0

The authors argue that Industry 4.0 technologies are the innovation capacity that should be supported to move supply chains from their linear model, known for its high energy and resource consumption, to a circular model where technology replaces intermediaries and drives operations towards sustainability and efficiency.

They link the resulting capabilities of this transformation to the potential achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Evidence of cognitive digital twins for last-mile delivery

This paper examines the problem of Freight Transport Parking Management (FPMP) for last-mile delivery in the context of smart cities where objects are managed by digital twins.

The results suggest:

improved logistics efficiency

a reduction in negative externalities

potential new business services for logistics service providers

new management information for city planners and decision-makers

This paper also presents a case study of parcel delivery in Paris using Orange France's Thing in the future (Thing'in) platform to demonstrate a real-world application of this approach.

A prize to develop collaboration between the academic and professional worlds

The idea of this contest was born from the merger of two associations of logistics and supply chain management. The first one gathers French-speaking researchers (AIRL-SCM), the other one professionals and schools (France Supply Chain), but both are convinced of the necessity of a dialogue and common actions to make Supply Chain a lever towards a sustainable world.

The award is aimed at researchers who have published an article in French or English, the results of which may have an impact via a practical application or through its potential to influence decisions in companies or public bodies. The innovative nature of the research is also a criterion dear to the organizers. As proof of the close relationship between practitioners and scientists, France Supply Chain presented the prize at the annual AIRL-SCM gala held on May 30, 2024 at the La Rochelle Aquarium.
