During your vacations, France Supply Chain takes care of you!
Our website is brimming with resources to occupy your reading time.
On Thursday June 29, over 100 people gathered at the Parc de Tréville, headquarters of Groupe Les Mousquetaires in Bondoufle, to take part in Supply Chain Day 2023. The Group's Executive Director, Ali Khosrovi, honored us with his presence and paid tribute toÉric Le Mignon, General Supply Chain Director at Intermarché and member of the association, on the occasion of his retirement.
The morning was hosted by the sparkling Fabrice Lundy, talented business columnist, presenter and interviewer. President Yann de Feraudy was on hand to talk about the future of France Supply Chain, while leaders of Labs, projects and communities told the assembly about some of the issues that are driving them in 2023.
A retrospective with a strong CSR flavour
Social and Environmental Responsibility means LAB SupplyChain4GOOD with Aimé-Frédéric Rosenzweig, Supply Chain Expert Leader at Renault Group and Camille Demarquilly, VP Global Supply Chain Engineering at Michelinat the helm, joined successively by :
Romain Chevallet, Group Occupational Health & Wellbeing Manager at FM Logistic, and Benjamin Muller, Ergonomics and Disability Manager at Groupe Rocher, to focus on the Toolbook of best practices . Reducing drudgery in the warehouse.
Géraud Pellat de Villedon, General Secretary of SCLCMT and Michelin's CSR Supply Chain Manager, was on hand to announce the start of production of the first SCLCMT shippers' association's roto-propelled container ships.
Reuben Fischer of The Shift Project in an interview recorded before the event.
The round-table of sustainable projects ended with the EVOLUE project (Engagement volontaire pour des logistiques urbaines efficientes), which focuses on urban distribution, with France Supply Chain, Club Demeter,Institut du Commerce (Xavier Hua, Managing Director) andSprintProject ( Eymeric de Pelleport, EVOLUE Project Manager, Development Director).
As the data collection phase draws to a close (it is still possible to complete this panel), the first results will be published at the end of September 2023 and will serve as a basis for proposing optimizations to professionals, such as alternatives on existing infrastructures, mutualization or co-transportation. Prospective studies will then be carried out.
How can we decarbonize freight? Reuben Fisher, Freight Project Manager at The Shift Project and CSR & Sustainable Development Director at HOPPS GROUP, talks to business columnist Fabrice Lundy.
A new approach for Lab Digital
The LAB Digital et Technologies with Arnaud de Moissac, CEO of DcBrain shared the 1st results of the survey on priority use cases in digital Supply Chain.
Optimizing flows, logistics sites and product management is the major concern of respondents. Closely followed by the need to make the right decisions and take action thanks to good data management. The survey also reveals expectations in terms of Dashboards and KPIs, tools which the Lab will have to address in the future in order to propose solutions to members.
Digital then gave way to human. Xavier Derycke, Lab RH leader, in the midst of handing over to Denis Deumier, Group Supply Chain Director for Rexel Group , reviewed the achievements of Lab Richesses Humaines, a name that echoed Les Mousquetaires' slogan: "Il n'est de richesse que d'Hommes". Jean Bodin, philosopher.
Good to know: anonymized reports on practices and experiments carried out in companies and/or schools will soon be available to members in the site's "Resource Bank".
Where there's human, there's youth, with the presence of 2 members of Lab Jeunes,2nd promotion: Rodrigue Branchet-Fauvet, PMO of the Lab and Nathan Guilbert of the Pôle Radio Supply Chain. These committed KEDGE ISLI students, eager to learn and meet new people, demonstrated that Supply Chain can be a passion for students. It's up to us to introduce them to it.
When SMEs and start-ups shake up the supply chain
Find out more about the scheme dedicated to ETIs and SMEs and why you should join the next promotion.
Emmanuel Gioux, Supplier Responsiveness Program Director at L'Oréal, andWilliam Zanotti, President of DigiLence, then took to the stage to present the program designed for ETIs and SMEs. To illustrate this, let's cite a fine example: a L'Oréal supplier who followed the personalized support program in its test version. After 6 months, he has :
created and recruited a Supply Chain Manager;
created a full-fledged Supply Chain department and hired ;
designed new processes.
As Emmanuel Gioux sums up, "the idea is: we'll be stronger together [...] as a customer of this supplier, we can see the concrete benefits for us ".
Hervé Dechene, Cofounder VP Strategy at SprintProject, led the Start-up Session, an exercise that continues to enthrall the audience. This year, they tackled the subject of the Circular Supply Chain, and in particular reusable containers, with :
Anne-Sophie Raoult of Hipli (reusable packaging for e-commerce);
Shu Zhang of Pandobac (turnkey service for reusable transport packaging for the catering industry);
François des Beauvais from Pyxo (reuse solution for catering packaging).
A growing association
Supply Chain Day also provided an opportunity to reviewthe internationalization of theassociation, and in particular its growing involvement in the new development of a European logistics and supply chain management community. Indeed, Didier Granger, CEO of OEMServices, was recentlyelected vice-president of ELA(European Logistics Association), where he represents France Supply Chain.
Before moving on to the legal aspects of this annual event, the Chairman wished to emphasize thesuccess and power of communities . This new concept differs from Labs in its approach and purpose. Labs are formal groupings where people work together to produce structured content that will benefit all members and beyond.
Communities, on the other hand, are informal groups with nothing more to offer than mutual support and the exchange of experiences and even situations. Yann de Feraudy has commissionedMarie-Laure Furgala, Director of KEDGEISLI , to lead a community of over 200 members, thewomen in Supply Chain community.
The diversity of our members is an inexhaustible source of knowledge, so make the most of it!
At the end of the morning,hosted the association's general meeting, with the presentation of the annual report, the accounts and the election of the new Board of Directors, followed by an excellent cocktail reception in a bucolic setting.
Once again, we'd like to thankGroupe les Mousquetaires for hosting the event, and all the members, partners and speakers who took part in Supply Chain Day.

At the end of the day on June 7, the Communauté des Femmes en Supply Chain, numerous women and even a few men took part in an exceptional Webinar. Annie Saillard, Vice President Operation Digital & Integrated Solutions at ALSTOM and Stéphanie Rott, Director of Operations at GUERLAIN answered questions from Marie-Laure Furgala, Director of ISLI. Participants discovered authentic, accessible and inspiring women.
This question-and-answer game focused on :
career management ;
advice from one professional to another, but also from one woman to another;
what inspires them every day;
who they are.
Finally, Annie and Stéphanie answered questions from several participants on equal pay, career development, working abroad or on the contrary working in France as a foreigner, and also on how to balance family and professional life with responsibilities and even travel.
These 2 testimonials are intended to nourish, enrich and inspire as many women as possible, whether they are working, studying or looking for career guidance. We also believe that these exchanges and this moment of sharing can be of benefit to men, employees, managers and recruiters in the Supply Chain.
What better way to capture the essence of these stories than with a pencil? Talented sketch by Myriam DUMANCHIN-MAKNI.
So why join a women's professional network? What are the advantages for career advancement? Here are just some of the reasons put forward by the recently formed Women in Supply Chain community:
Support and mentoring: a space where women can support each other, share experiences and challenges, and receive advice and mentoring from successful women in their field. These interactions can boost self-confidence, offer unique perspectives and help overcome professional obstacles.
Professional development: the opportunity to take part in workshops, conferences or private physical events. These opportunities enable women to acquire new skills, career advice, exclusive information, improve their knowledge and develop their network.
Networking: the chance to cultivate your network with other women in leadership or influential positions in various fields. These relationships can foster collaborations, employment opportunities, partnerships and the exchange of resources.
Advocacy and empowerment: women's professional networks often play a key role in promoting gender equality and empowering women in the world of work. They can help raise awareness of the specific issues facing women, defend their rights and create a more inclusive working environment.
It's important to note that joining a women's professional network isn't exclusive, and doesn't mean opting out of mixed networks. Rather, it's about complementing your existing network and benefiting from a specific space to exchange and connect with other women with similar experiences.
On May 26, Jérôme Bour, President of DDS, and Geoffrey Thiery, Senior Supply Chain Consultant at Wavestone, both active members of the Lab Digital et Technologies, shared feedback and a wealth of information to guide companies in the digitization of their transport operations. As a reminder, all this data is available in a publication accessible to France Supply Chain members.
Participants were also able to ask questions to answer issues affecting their business, such as last-mile delivery orinterfacing with specific information systems.
The elements communicated at this event are based on the expertise of a whole range of speakers, from users (shippers, manufacturers and service providers) to practitioners and suppliers of digital solutions, as well as on the results of an internal survey of nearly 150 France Supply Chain member companies (manufacturers and distributors). The day's speakers addressed the following topics:
Which system for which transport processes or issues (strategic, tactical, operational or execution)?
A non-exhaustive look at the types of solutions and players on the market, via a radar.
Implementation procedures for successful deployment.
The digitization of transport operations is a response to the growing complexity ofsupply chain management, and theacceleration of customerneeds and processes. To achieve this, we need access to data. Hence the following question:
How can transport be integrated into an increasingly complex and interwoven IT ecosystem?
Today, the technological side has been mastered thanks to fairly standardized APIs. It is now possible to integrate a whole range of building blocks and a mosaic of upstream and downstream, B-to-B, B-to-C and even last-mile solutions. So, the starting point of a digitalization project is really the flow, the business.
This webinar is a reminder that before starting out with a solution, it's essential to formalize and define your functional requirements, so that you can put out a more detailed call for tenders and obtain a quality tool, or even a pilot that will enable you to plan ahead.
What's the best strategy for successfully implementing a digital transport solution?
The success of your project also depends on your ability to get your partners on board. This is one of the most recurrent and complex obstacles to overcome. Our experts present the strategies to be implemented and the key factors for resolving this obstacle, in particular the possibility of developing the partnership between you, the shipper, and your carrier.
What gains can we expect?
Gains on the shipper's side are often very rapid, and have a significant impact on the overall cost of transport activities by reducing distances and smoothing out operations. Budget reductions of 3 to 10% are possible. In terms of major indirect gains, we would mention the increased respect for the customer's promise through improved service levels.
ROI generally less than one year
Finally, our specialists looked at how digital solutions can reduce CO2 emissions. By collecting and managing data, it is now possible to identify alternative means of transport (with a lower carbon footprint) or to optimize load rates. The digitization of transport is therefore an effective lever for tackling today's challenges.
Answers to the questions asked at this conference:
A free TMS? Does it exist?
Yes, the first free TMS loader has just been launched on the market.
Do you have any idea of the percentage of FSC shipper members already equipped with a TMS?
In the 2022 survey, less than 25% of shippers (FSC members) said they had a TMS in place.
New DMS solutions are arriving on the market, particularly for the 1st or last km. Do you include them in the same family as TMS?
Delivery management systems complement TMSs, to organize last-mile delivery operations, typically for a shipper with omnichannel flows.
How much does a TMS cost?
Costs vary according to the scope of deployment and the functions implemented. The typical SaaS budget is 0 (free solutions) to 1% of the transport budget for execution functions, and 1 to 2% of the transport budget including optimization functions.
How complicated is it to connect a TMS to the entire IT eco-system?
TMSs generally offer APIs or interfaces for information exchange with ERP, WMS and other systems. Connection is facilitated by the use of standards for message formats (e.g. EDIFACT) or transfer technologies (e.g. JSON).
When we speak of a shipper, are we talking about the principal or the company physically loading the products, for example?
It's the client.
We're talking about lead times and customer service, but isn't there also a tendency to deliver to customers more slowly (CO2 and CSR impacts)?
Some TMS allow you to compare several transport alternatives, according to criteria of cost, delivery time, quality of service and CO2 emissions. For a shipper wishing to reduce the carbon footprint of its deliveries, this type of function enables arbitration, and the choice of a less time-consuming delivery with lower CO2 emissions.

Since 2022, France Supply Chain collaborates with the International Association for Research in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (AIRL-SCM) in order to reward a scientific publication bringing a significant contribution in the field of the sustainable Supply Chain. This year, a study on urban delivery was chosen. Thanks to real data from 600,000 operations carried out over 2 months in the city of Paris, the 3 authors compare and reveal that cargo bikes are more profitable than electric light utility vehicles.
A rigorous demonstration of the economic viability of cargo bikes for urban logistics
The Prize for the best paper in sustainable supply chain is a project led by the Lab SupplyChain4Good of France Supply Chain and the AIRL-SCM. For the 2023 edition, the association collected 11 applications and selected the paper of Antoine Robichet (Gustave Eiffel University), Patrick Nierat (École des Ponts ParisTech) and Francois Combes (Gustave Eiffel University). On April 5, the winners received €2000 for their publication in the Transportation Research Record.
The title of the winning paper is: "First and Last Miles by Cargo Bikes: Ecological Commitment or Economically Feasible? The Case of a Parcel Service Company in Paris". It looks at the financial impact of the cargo bike delivery model and in particular its Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Data provided by an international logistics service provider was also used to define the conditions that must be in place for the scheme to be relevant.

A prize to develop collaboration between the academic and professional worlds
The idea of this contest was born from the merger of two associations of logistics and supply chain management. The first one gathers French-speaking researchers (AIRL-SCM), the other one professionals and schools (France Supply Chain), but both are convinced of the necessity of a dialogue and common actions to make Supply Chain a lever towards a sustainable world.
This award concerns teachers-researchers who have published an article in French or in English and whose results can have an impact via a practical application or by its potential to influence decisions in companies or in public organizations. The innovative nature of the research is also a criterion dear to the organizers. As a proof of the privileged relationship between practitioners and scientists, France Supply Chain presented its prize during the 20th anniversary of the AIRL-SCM.

In France, transport and logistics are among the 7 sectors most exposed to musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). To prevent and reduce physical risks in the warehouse, France Supply Chain by Aslog provides all professionals with a Toolbook of concrete practices validated in the field. This new tool is the result of work carried out within the framework of the LAB SupplyChain4Good led by the Rocher Group and FM Logistic with the contribution of 30 member companies. This publication gives concrete expression to the association's ambition of a sustainable Supply Chain for people.
130+ solutions to address health, performance and recruitment issues in transport and logistics
190,000 new hires are expected in 2023 for warehousing and order preparation activities. However, these professions are under pressure due to the sometimes difficult working conditions. In France, 70% of work stoppages are linked to back pain. It is therefore essential to take action on physical hardship in warehouses in order to increase the attractiveness of the sector and to retain and maintain its teams.
This guide offers numerous solutions to raise awareness, prevent and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). They can be adapted to the type of activity or the employee's profile, subject to preliminary tests. These include, for example, workstation adjustments to reduce the risk of pain, handling aids and passive and active exoskeletons.
A practical and pedagogical approach thanks to role playing and experience sharing
The guide focuses on three major activities in warehouses, namely order picking, stacking/unstacking and receiving/shipping. First, it presents an overview of the solutions used by half of the companies in the sample to measure the difficulty of working. It includes rating and observation grids for work situations as well as technological solutions for measuring gestures and postures.
Illustrated fact sheets
In the second part, the Toolbook identifies 13 risk situations for which it proposes practical sheets based on illustrations in real-life conditions. The exoskeletons are the subject of a distinct focus thanks to the numerous feedbacks of companies having already tested their use in the warehouse professions. The France Supply Chain community intends to make the whole sector benefit from its experience to increase the well-being of the women and men of the Supply Chain.
