RPA & Cybersecurity

TWO NEW WHITE PAPERS PUBLISHED BY FRANCE SUPPLY CHAIN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WAVESTONE

France Supply Chain and its partner Wavestone publish today two new white papers, RPA and Cybersecurity, dedicated to process automation and digital risk, two major challenges for the supply chain. They enrich the work of the Digital & Technologies Lab, directed by François Martin-Festa, with the objective of making very complex concepts accessible to the entire supply chain world.

In a context of increasing competitive pressure and strong variations in supply and demand, the supply chain must transform itself to become agile and resilient. It is therefore becoming increasingly integrated and digital to carry out its activities. The two white papers, produced by France Supply Chain with the partnership of Wavestone, a French consulting firm specialised in the transformation of companies and organisations, are therefore a contribution to the reflection on the digitalisation of the supply chain. They contribute to the decision making of supply chain managers, who are called upon to become actors of this transformation.

By identifying the best technologies, risks, innovative ideas, and by launching collaborative projects, France Supply Chain, through its Digital & Technologies Lab, provides the entire profession with practical tools and a prospective vision of digital transformation.

"This latest work allows us to enlighten manufacturers on the opportunities, risk areas and threats that we have identified for many supply chains. They are part of our commitment to advancing the awareness, knowledge and experience sharing of our members, by providing them with insights that are highly focused on the complex technological issues they face.
François Martin-Festa, VP End to End Offer Data, Schneider Electric Group and head of the Digital & Technologies Lab

The approach: Under the impetus of a steering committee led by François Martin-Festa, members aware of the subject, among the 450 member companies of France Supply Chain, multinationals, SMEs or startups from all sectors of activity, met to share their contributions in an open manner.

The methodology: With a very strong operational and concrete character, it is structured around 3 key points:

  • to offer a panorama of concrete case studies with feedback,
  • draw up a checklist of issues and risks that supply chain professionals may face,
  • to propose a radar of solutions by identifying the companies which will be able, because of their recognised specialities, to help them analyse and solve their problems.

"Within theframework of these two white papers, we have contributed our vision of the profession, business and technology, in order to feed the exchanges which have enabled the members of France Supply Chain to build together a point of view that is accessible to the greatest number ofpeople."
Marc Dauga, Wavestone Partner and member of the Digital & Technologies Lab

RPA and Cybersecurity: opportunities and threats for the supply chain

These two white papers provide an insight into the challenges of the ongoing digital transformation, highlighting best practices, solutions and points of attention for the future.

  • The white paper Supply Chain x RPA (Robotic Process Automation) aims to present RPA, its use and its benefits on supply chain activities. It details concrete applications of this technology on all supply chain processes (planning, order management, customer service, etc.) and lists the main actions to be taken to support its implementation.
  • The second white paper, Supply Chain x Cybersecurity, takes stock of the cyber risks to the activities of an increasingly computerised and globalised supply chain. At a time when "the question is no longer if the supply chain will be attacked but when it will be attacked", this white paper clearly sets out the risks and consequences. It also outlines the 3 major trends that will continue into 2022: subcontractor compromise and targeted attacks on the cloud.

The Digital & Technologies Lab

In a context of strong competitive pressure requiring to limit the increase of costs, to be agile in order to bring more and more services to the industrialists as well as to the private individuals, to adapt permanently to the strong variations of activity, and in an uncertain geo-political landscape, the digitalization of the supply chain is a key lever. A subject as fundamental as it is complex, it is at the heart of the reflections and actions of France Supply Chain.

Within the Digital & Technologies Lab, the community of France Supply Chain members carries out a certain number of projects. Their approach is always guided by a strong principle: to improve the knowledge of the members, but also and above all to try to bring a concrete point of entry for the companies around cases of use, meetings, feedback, and to offer, in fine, "a forum cleared of all mercantile considerations", as François Martin-Festa puts it.

The work of the Digital & Technologies Lab is structured around 9 major themes: Artificial Intelligence, IOT, Intralogistics, Digitalisation of transport, RPA, Data, Supply Chain Innovation, Blockchain and Cybersecurity.

Supply Chain x Cybersecurity

On April 22, 2022, within the Digital Lab, France Supply Chain and Wavestone published the Supply Chain x Cybersecurity White Paper, dedicated to the problems of digital risk, a major challenge for the Supply Chain. After several months of work on this theme, on April 15 we organised a webinar to present the publication, which you can find at the end of this article.

Supply Chain Decarbonisation: The Shift Project x SupplyChain4Good collaboration

In 2021, we have drafted a manifesto for a sustainable supply chain and our aim is to have a living document that we continuously enrich with the experiences and projects of our members.

We would like to open up our work to other reference associations that also work for the decarbonisation of the economy. In this context, exchanges have been initiated with "The Shift Project".

Accelerating the energy transition of the supply chain

The climate emergency, coupled with the crisis of the covid, reveals the importance of decarbonising the energies produced and consumed, and of developing short energy circuits. Beyond the sense of history, there are the regulatory constraints linked to the challenges of sustainable investment and the energy needs of territories. This context, in the grip of ambitious European obligations to generalise green energy, places the supply chain as a producer and source of energy for the territories.

On 22 March, France Supply Chain organised a conference with LLC Avocats to find out how to take action on carbon energy issues. The objective of this conference was to go beyond the regulatory constraints by highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of energy projects with regard to the specificities of the Supply Chain.

Cargo owners wishing to commit to low-carbon maritime transport

The Shippers' Association, newly created by France Supply Chain and the Association of Freight Transport Users (AUTF), launched in early February 2022 a call for tender aiming to deploy solutions for the transport of cargo ships with velvet propulsion as early as 2024. The aim is to accelerate the decarbonisation of maritime transport on a global scale, for a more sustainable future.

Faced with ongoing environmental challenges, companies are devising solutions to enable logistics with a lower environmental impact. However, the decarbonisation of maritime transport remains a complex issue.

Although innovative solutions, such as biofuels, can currently be deployed, they cannot be the only answer to the energy sobriety that we absolutely need at global level. Yet maritime transport is a vital part of the functioning of our economy, which is more than ever based on international trade.

With this in mind, France Supply Chain and the Association des Utilisateurs de Transport de Fret (AUTF), are mobilising to take their approach towards low-carbon maritime transport a step further and have created theAssociation des Chargeurs pour un Transport Maritime Décarboné. The aim of this Association is to federate shippers in order to deploy innovative low-carbon solutions on an industrial scale.

An initial call for tenders was launched by the Association at the beginning of February 2022 for two weekly transatlantic links between Europe and North America, to be operated from 2024 onwards by container ships propelled mainly by wind power. The ambition is to reduce CO2 emissions by at least half compared to conventional transport.

Groupe Avril, Bontaz, Coty, Gerflor, Groupe L'Occitane, Groupe Rocher, La Fournée Dorée, Massilly, Michelin, Moët Hennessy, Nestlé WaterS, Remy Cointreau have confirmed their willingness to transport part of their containers by this innovative means of transport, in order to reduce the environmental impact of their logistics.

These shippers call for the mobilisation of international shippers who are at the heart of the virtuous circle of this transition, so that they join the coalition and become actors of a responsible maritime fleet.

At a time when the world must reinvent itself in the face of major environmental challenges, the Supply Chain, the true nervous system of the economy, once again bears witness to the fact that it is one of the keys to sustainable renewal.

CO2e Measurement Across Supply Chain by SupplyChain4Good

From a BCG survey of 1,290 companies in 2021, we know that :

85%

of organisations consider themselves concerned about reducing their emissions

9%

are able to measure their emissions comprehensively

11%

have reduced their emissions in line with their stated ambitions over the last five years

More broadly, respondents to this study estimate an average error rate of 30-40% in the measurement of their emissions.

Following the publication of the 6th IPCC report and the ambitions shared by The Shift Project in their Plan for the Transformation of the French Economy, it is clear that organisations are not up to the challenge.

This is why the SupplyChain4Good LAB is launching the "CO2e Measurement Across Supply Chain" project

To carry out this project, we are launching a survey to assess the impact of companies. The more people who participate, the more we can move forward together on low carbon best practice.

The objectives

  • Diagnose current CO2e measurement practices in supply chains.
  • Examine the prospects for improving measurement practices (automation, collaboration, granularity, completeness, etc.).
  • Agreeing on a targeted level of accuracy of CO2e measurement that could support the steering of the transition to a low-carbon economy with reasonable effort

Deliverables

  • Survey of all participants to assess the maturity of impact measurement, priorities and current concerns regarding existing methodologies.
  • Diagnosis of current impact measurement practices related to the value chain; the level of completeness, granularity, frequency and accuracy should be assessed and challenged
  • Best Practice Guide / Set of recommendations on the level of measurement targeted for each axis identified in the diagnosis and survey
  • SupplyChain4Good approved" label and/or commitment of all participants to adopt the recommended practices.
  • Proof of Concepts adapted to the revealed needs of the participants

White Paper - Supply Chain x RPA 2022

In a context of ever-increasing competitive pressure, the supply chain must transform itself to become more integrated and digital, and thus gain in agility and resilience. Increasing productivity and competitiveness are key objectives that the supply chain must achieve.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is therefore becoming a major challenge for the supply chain in order to automate time-consuming processes (data entry, master data management, sending documents, etc.). This automation frees up time for operators and guarantees the integrity of data, time that can be reinvested in higher value-added tasks such as those geared towards customer satisfaction. RPA can be implemented in all companies, from SMEs to multinationals, and in all sectors of activity.

What are the prospects for hydrogen-powered heavy goods vehicles for freight transport?

Heavy goods vehicles are known to produce the majority of the negative externalities linked to carbon emissions. For several years now, companies have been striving to adopt more responsible solutions in order to make their supply chain greener.

Hydrogen is becoming one of the most studiedalternative energies for the creation of clean vehicles for goods transport. As it is not used enough, there are many questions about its functioning, its deployment prospects, its advantages, its obstacles...

On 16 February, France Supply Chain and France Hydrogène organised an event to answer all these questions. Several speakers met in order to inform and accompany the actors of the supply chain of goods transport wishing to engage or already working on the topic of the electric truck with hydrogen for goods transport.

During this event, the Mobilité Hydrogène France group of France Hydrogène presented its White Paper dedicated to the deployment of the electric hydrogen truck in France.
